who We Are

Friends For Flanders is a dedicated group of concerned Hatton Road and Carmel-by-the-Sea neighbors who passionately support protecting the tranquility of the Mission Trail Nature Preserve and the serenity of their neighborhood. We organized ourselves in September 2024 to oppose another proposal to turn Flanders Mansion into an ‘event destination.’

Friends For Flanders is now an official working sub-group of Friends of Mission Trail Nature Preserve, a respected local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been committed to safeguarding and enhancing the Mission Trail for 16 years in partnership with the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. This organization has successfully raised funds and dedicated tens of thousands of volunteer hours to care for the Mission Trail Nature Preserve, the Lester Rowntree Garden, and all habitats adjacent to Flanders Mansion.

Friends For Flanders is creating a positive, long-term solution for Flanders Mansion. Our goal is to ensure that this landmark property is used in a way that maintains the integrity, safety, and serene quality of life for residents living near Flanders Mansion, those on the perimeter of the Mission Trail Nature Preserve, and all citizens of Carmel to benefit from.
